The Morphine Pump Not Working ?&*!%
I stayed overnight with Jason on Day 2 after the surgery. The night went uneventful (which was good) until the early morning of Day 3.
THE MORPHINE PUMP WAS NOT WORKING!
7am, the big guy came to give Jason a sponge bath (yes, a big guy but a nice gentle big guy…;p), the BigGuy had to shuffle Jason around, which triggered the pain sensation after a night of peaceful sleep (ok, not so peaceful with someone kept on checking your vitals every hour or so, but at least his abs wasn’t hurting), in such a critical moment, the pump so coincidentally failed to dispense morphine when the patient-controlled button was pushed. By the time the nurse came to fix it, Jason was half dead lying in the chair with contorted facial muscle like the twists on a meat bun. (The lesson: check and fix your narcotic pump before it was too late…;p)
But still, it took hours to recover from ‘that pain’ that J still couldn’t describe verbally. “Record my great suffering.” was what he said.
Nevertheless, he desert a trophy walking laps (ordered by his doctor) hunching his back like a cooked shrimp carrying that unspeakable pain. Give him a pat on the back next time you see him and cheer him on.
