Access-A-Ride
someone i met at the hospital told me about this low cost door-to-door transportation service provided by the city. it’s called access-a-ride. they basically are like taxi or car service that come to your house to pick you up and drop you off at the hospital except they only charge $2 per ride, the same as public transportation (bus and subway). however, you will need to call ahead, a day in advance to arrange for the service. the program has some requirements that you’ll need to meet in order to become eligible for the service. i applied and got approved but i never use it because i think it should be used by people who really need it. the web site is at http://www.mta.info/nyct/paratran/guide.htm for people who may consider using it.
