Watch Batteries

I haven’t wear watches for a long long time, ever since college I think. It’s always been a thing with me cuz I think I have no sense of time. And while sailing with some other people I realized I need a water resistant watch that has a timer on it. We were competiting with each other on how fast we get from one point to the other for ice cream haha It was fun, but I couldn’t time for other cuz I have no watch/timer to do it. I have two watches that are just sitting in my desk drawer doing nothing and “dead” for the past several years without batteries, I decided to “revive” them. While searching online, the batteries are expensive after adding shipping so I went to Target to see if they have them. Target has limited batteries but they are much cheaper than other stores like Radioshack. The two watches use different button batteries. I was looking for “AG3″ and “SR916SW”. It was frustrating because they don’t have the one with the same model number. I found one (model 392) that appears to look like the AG3 but the height seems to be a little shorter. I cant exactly tell because the batteries is protected by plastic and it’s hard to see it at an angle. I asked the sales person and she couldn’t tell either. So I went home without the batteries, however, with couple of things I didn’t plan to buy haha That’s how they get you. Anyways, I asked my father if he can help, and he went to Radioshack and they found the batteries for him. It turns out (model 392) was the right one. On the back of the packaging it listed AG3 as one that it can replace. Of course like all consumers, I don’t read. haha but I can’t believe the sales person at Target didn’t know to read the back for compatibility. She was looking at the batteries like I did trying to determine if they are the same lols Maybe I should of check with another sales person. The “SR916SW” has no replacement cell at Target but at Radioshack they found “model 373″ to replace it. Awesome! These new batteries are silver oxides and the old ones I believe are alkalines. I don’t know if they have standardize the model/name of batteries so it’d be easier to buy them. On the back of the packaging you’d see a long list of batteries that it can replace. I think maybe they did because all the batteries models are numbered, at least the ones I saw in the store. The old ones from different brands use different formats, some are just numbers and different, some are alphanumeric. So just remember to check the back of the packaging for info when buying batteries. 392 cost $4.99 and 373 cost $5.49 at Radioshack which I know it’s more expensive but you are paying for the service which is very attentive. At Target you can get those batteries for probably half the price or less, if they do carry them.

  1. My experience with the Radio Shack in my neighborhood follows: Their salesperson are indeed more knowledgeable and you can get the batteries faster, but the batteries seem to be less fresh, mine used up after just a few months. It’s hard to tell because there’s no “fresh until” date on their packages, like the name brands carried by Target.
