About Me
Hi, welcome to CancerGuy.com! My name is Jason and I am a cancer patient/fighter. I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer on May 5th 2006. The cancer started at the colon and had metastasized to the liver as well as a few lymph node spots in the abdomen. I had a surgery on May 5th to have the part of the colon called sigmoid removed (about a foot long). The surgery went well however, the cancer tumor in the liver was not removed due to the close proximity of the tumor and major vein/blood vessels. I am now on chemotherapy to keep the cancer cells in check and waiting for the next surgery.

My initial CT scan. Circled is the same liver tumor in different views.
Update: 6/21/2007
I had my second surgery which is liver resection that took place on 1/9/2007. The operation was to take out the tennis ball sized tumor in the liver. It required cutting off 2/3 of my liver! Obviously the surgery went successfully which allowed me to be here updating my site =) The good news did not stop there! The result from the pathology report was showing no sign of viable cancer cells in the liver tissue that was taken out. It means the cancer cells were all dead when the operation took place. This is the best outcome that any surgery/chemotherapy treatment can result in and I was said to be in complete remission!! One of my doctors called it a small miracle
I was supposed to have only 3-4 months left when I was diagnosed with cancer on 5/5/2006 and by 1/9/2007 which is about 8 months later, not only did I survived, I am free of cancer!! Wooohoooooooo~
I have been back for checkup in April, the condition is still the same, no sign of cancer cells =) I will have to follow-up every 3 months up to a year and if everything is good, it will be changed to every 6 months and so on. *crossing my fingers* =)))

Recent ct scans are still showing great result! Everything is normal, no sign of abnormal cell growth!
Update: 8/2/2008
Everything is going great at this point in my life. All scans since January came out clean! I had my med-port removed just recently and celebrated 2 year anniversary of being diagnosed with cancer and survived it. The incision area from the surgery is recovering really well. I think the doctor will be pleased. The reddish color of the scar has faded. The ab muscles felt fine. There’s no more pain and I have started working the abs by doing approximately 100 sit ups every other day. The only side effect that remain from chemotherapy is neuropathy. The fingers have very slight numbness but toes are still fairly strong. However I don’t let it interfere with my daily life. From summer of last year, I have taken lessons on rock climbing, djing, and most recently sailing. Just 2 weeks ago, I went sky diving and plan to become licensed by braving the entire skydiving course. I wanted to learn more things but time is limited as I am involved in quite a few projects at the moment and they will last for quite a while. I’ll be joining the local swimming facility and start swimming soon. Also I am planning on getting fit and “ripped” in the next half a year so I’ll be allocating time each day to exercise and work out. I am currently involved in app creations on Facebook, MySpace, iPhone as well as building a few new web sites. I have a few big dreams that I’d like to accomplish within 5 years. It is quite exciting and sometimes stressful but I love it. I have been eating well, sleeping well and drinking my daily shot of wheat grass juice religiously. yumz
I believe I have changed my lifestyle really significantly and hopefully that will keep me healthy for a very long time
Okay, until next time, live well~
Update: 8/30/2009
Everything is fine everyone!
I go back for check ups every 6 months now and each time the scan result is clean. However, I have experienced 2 episodes (3/11 and 8/21) of bowel/intestine obstruction which is really painful and sent me to the hospital both times. Thankfully the intestine recovered itself and no surgery was needed.
Update: 6/16/2011
Time really flies! It’s already 5 years since I was diagnosed with cancer. The scan results are still good! My checkup schedule has been changed to annually instead semi-annually from now on! Also the scans have been changed to MRI instead of CT since last November 2010 (2 MRIs so far). No bowel obstruction or adhesion since 2009. I will have my colonoscopy in about a year or so. Live Strong!
